Reed tests recovery process at Daytona

// March 9th, 2010 // 24 Comments » // BLOG

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Chad Reed took the opportunity to test his strength and recovery progress last weekend, riding practice and qualifying at the Daytona Supercross event on a practice KX450F machine.

After a lengthy stint on the sidelines recovering from a hand injury the Australian is looking forward to a return to racing in the near future.

He began specific fitness training two weeks ago and climbed aboard the bike last week.

After a consultation with his surgeon, the multiple Supercross champ was given promising news on his progress just days before the Daytona event.

Reed attended a number of corporate appearances with the team last Friday, before making the decision late on Friday night to contest the practice and qualifying sessions.

His return to form was instant, setting the quickest time in both initial sessions.

Despite having no intention of racing, he felt it offered a good opportunity to test his comfort on a bike in what would be the closest he would come to a race simulation.

“It felt really good to be back and riding at Daytona,” said Reed. “At around 9pm on the Friday night I decided to have my practice bike brought to the track for the next day.

“My surgeon has said he is pleased with how my hand is healing. I will go back to him in the days to come and seek his opinion about the upcoming races.

“It felt great to be out there and I’m really looking forward to racing once the recovery process is fully complete.”

A message to my fans

Hey ladies and gentlemen, hope you are all doing good!

Sorry its taken this long to get on here but I’ve been wide open working on my health, my hand injury and of course, becoming a dad. I’ve been spending a lot of time going to the birth classes… yes, I do go…and ‘wow’ is all I have to say. Then we’ve also been working on the Australian Super X for this year in between travelling to the various SX races over here. Plus I’ve been trying hard to put together a team in Australia before the MX begins in a month.

All is coming along for me, my hand is pretty good, just trying to get it stronger. I rode for the first time in six weeks a few days back, that was a lot of fun. It was awesome to get back on the bike after a lot of time off. I can still let the clutch out and shift gears…big relief! Reading some of the things on here made me think I was as good as done, but we shall see!

If there ever was a good time to get hurt this was it for me. Out of all the negatives, so many positives have come from the time off. I had a lot to sort out and I feel I’ve made big inroads. I’m not 100% yet but I can assure you I am fully committed to getting there, not sure just yet when and where I’ll race. I’d love to think Daytona but after riding only once in six weeks it could be a long shot.

Hopefully I’ll be back racing soon and give you guys something to cheer for. I’ll keep you posted.

Reed – Stewart rivalry reaches epic status

// January 18th, 2010 // 95 Comments » // BLOG

The rivalry between dual World Supercross champion Chad Reed and reigning champion James Stewart reached boiling point today, with the two clashing heavily during the second round of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series which was held at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Both Reed and his nemesis were back in the pack at the start of the 20 lap race and followed each other through the early laps. On lap five of race Reed put a pass on Stewart going into a right hand corner and the two collided, leaving Reed with a suspected broken bone in his hand.

Tempers flared following the race but Reed acknowledged his focus is now is on having his hand assessed ahead of next weekend’s third round of the series.

“We were racing hard and we were racing for a championship where every point counts, as we saw at the end of last season,” Reed explained.

“James went high and I saw an opportunity to pass and took it and we came together end of story. The main focus for me right now is to seek medical advice and understand what sort of injury my hand has sustained.

“That’s got to be the priority right now then once I know where I am at I will take a little time to reflect on what happened,” he added.

The third instalment of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series will see the series head back to Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on Saturday 23rd January.

Reed chasing a podium in Phoenix

// January 15th, 2010 // 129 Comments » // BLOG

Australian rider Chad Reed will look to put a horror start to the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season behind him when he lines up at the start gate at Phoenix’s Chase Field on Saturday night.

Redemption will be the order of round two for the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, who was forced to retire from proceedings at the season opener with a damaged wheel.

Incredibly, it was only the third time from 119 AMA starts that he has finished outside the top ten.

A two-time title winner in the premier class, Reed has ridden the highs and lows of the sport but has always maintained an optimistic approach.

“Last weekend was a big blow but it was one of those things that is no one’s fault,” said Reed. “We’re looking to bounce back with a good result this weekend and really get back on track.

“The team has been supportive and we’re working together well, I’m confident the bike has what it takes to run at the front and if I can avoid the chaos at the start I’ll be in a good position to attack.”

The 27-year-old finished in second place at Chase Field last year on the way to a hard-fought second outright in the 450cc class for the season.

Practice and qualifying sessions will be held during the afternoon before the 20-lap Main Event gets underway at night.

Damaged wheel puts Reed out of 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross opener

// January 10th, 2010 // 160 Comments » // BLOG

After a successful lead-up to the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series Australia’s Supercross Champion Chad Reed has experienced a horror opening event at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium with a broken front wheel forcing him to the sidelines on the first lap of the Main Event.

Reed, who was third in his heat and happy with the way his Monster Energy Kawasaki  KX450F was responding to changes throughout the day was attempting a pass on Austin Stroupe for fifth place when the Suzuki rider made contact with his front wheel.

With several of the front wheel spokes completely broken Reed had no choice but to retire from the race and hand over his damaged factory Kawasaki to his mechanic.

Reed immediately expressed his short lived disappointment with the way his season had started to the race commentary team whilst vowing to return to the podium next week.

“This was not the way I had planned to start 2010,” Reed said. “I missed the start but was up into sixth and trying to make something happen when Austin Stroupe turned into me.

“It was a pretty big hit, his footpeg ended up in my front wheel and sheared the spokes out of it. From that moment there was nothing I could do to continue racing, the bike was unrideable and no longer safe.

“The critics will see a round DNF as a massive blow to my championship but it won’t be. Remember this is a long championship where anything can happen and everyone will have a bad week. I will just stick to my simple plan which is to win races and let the championship come,” Reed stated.

Reed will immediately begin preparing for the second round of the series which will be held at Chase Field in Phoenix on Saturday 16 January.

Reed determined to open 2010 Supercross season in style at Anaheim 1

// January 8th, 2010 // 409 Comments » // BLOG

Chad Reed’s quest for a third premier class AMA Supercross title begins this weekend at the 2010 season opener, Anaheim 1 at Angel Stadium in California.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, fresh from his second Super X championship win, has spent the past few weeks testing the KX450F racebike he will campaign in the 16-round series.

The born and bred Australian will attempt to add further accolade to a glittering international career which sees him sitting on 38 AMA Supercross victories.

Reed is determined to wrestle back the champion’s trophy which he has held twice before in 2004 and most recently in 2008.

“It’s been a hectic few months but I am really enjoying it all, everything from joining up with Monster and Kawasaki last year, to winning another Super X title and then joining the team back here (in the US) for pre-season testing,” said Reed.

“I feel like I’m fitting in really well with the team, there is such a positive attitude here and everyone has been great. To have Ryan (Villopoto) as a teammate is exciting, as a young rider he has lots of potential and as a team we bring a lot to the table.

“The bike feels very good and we’re confident that it will be ready to challenge for wins straight up.

“I’m really enjoying racing at the moment, I feel like my form and fitness is good and importantly I’m having a lot of fun out there which makes a big difference.

“A1 will be a good form guide for the rest of the season and I’m looking to open well by challenging for a win.”

The 27-year-old has won on 7 occasions at Anaheim, including his first AMA Supercross win in 2003.

Anaheim 1 marks the start of an intense four-month schedule which features races on almost every consecutive weekend. The season concludes in Las Vegas on the 8th of May.

New website online!

Welcome to my new Chad Reed Racing website, we are back online with a fresh new look and I am excited to tell you guys that we are going to be launching some new features over the next couple of months.

A lot has happened since the site went offline two months ago, I have been to the MX des Nations, joined the Monster Kawasaki Supercross team, contested the Race of Champions and been home to Australia to compete in my own series, Super X.

Australia was both successful and fun and provided us with a good opportunity to test the KX450F ahead of the 2010 season.

It also gave Ellie and I the chance to catch up with family and friends and regroup ahead of this year’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.

Personally, I am very excited about the new year, I have a new team, new teammate and I am feeling extremely positive about the season ahead. I am ready to fight it out week in week out to try and reclaim the title.

Thanks for taking the time to check out www.chadreedracing.com and be sure to check back here for all the latest updates on my 2010 campaign.
